There’s a particular kind of artist who feels like a discovery even when the rest of the world is catching on. Theo Lawrence is that artist – and right now, the world is very much catching on.
Born in Paris, based in Texas, Lawrence came of age as a cultural outsider in the best possible way. While his peers moved through the sounds around them, he fell headfirst into the American songbook of another era – Charlie Rich, Burt Bacharach, Carole King, Lee Hazlewood. The result is a sound that shouldn’t exist in 2026 and yet feels completely inevitable: French Riviera glamour poolside at an American motorlodge.
His newest single, “I’ve Got A Mind For Loving You,” is a masterclass in restraint and warmth. Built around vibraphone, nylon string guitar, and a quiet rhythm section gathered close around the microphone, it’s the kind of song that makes you feel you’ve stumbled into something intimate – a late-night session between people who trust each other completely. Lyrically, it’s uncomplicated in the most disarming way: a song for when the one you love can simply do no wrong in your eyes.
Lawrence recorded the track with a small circle of trusted collaborators, including co-producer Thibault Ripault on guitar and engineer Alex Hall – whose credits include JD McPherson and Nick Lowe, two names that tell you everything about the sonic world Lawrence inhabits.
The single follows “Lonely Too Long,” released earlier this spring, and both tracks are destined for his debut full-length for Warner Records / Reprise Records later this year. He also made his national television debut on CBS Saturday Morning this month, performing with the ease of someone who has been doing this for decades.
Starting next week, Lawrence hits the road for more than 75 dates across the U.S. as support for Alison Krauss & Union Station — a pairing that feels less like an opening act arrangement and more like a curatorial statement. If you’re in the path of this tour, go.
Some artists arrive fully formed. Theo Lawrence is one of them.
