Makeup Maestro Wayne Goss

In the ever-evolving world of beauty, few names stand out as prominently as Wayne Goss. With over 15 years in the industry and a massive following on YouTube and Instagram, Wayne has become a beacon of expertise and inspiration. Known for his transformational makeup tutorials and candid product reviews, Wayne has captured the hearts of millions. Today, we sit down with the makeup artist to discuss his latest venture – the launch of the “White Gold Collection,” a new range of synthetic makeup brushes that promise high quality at an affordable price. Here’s what he had to say.

Q: Your journey in the beauty industry spans over 15 years. Can you share how you initially got started in makeup and what inspired you to pursue this career?

Wayne Goss: My journey was mainly because I had bad skin around 20 years old. I had acne on my face, and my goal was firstly to get rid of it and secondly to cover it. That’s how I really got inspired by make-up – I wanted to cover the problems that I had, and I found that I was able to do that with make-up, and I was pretty good at doing it on an undetectable level.

Q: You’ve built a significant following on YouTube and Instagram. How has social media influenced your career, and what has been your favorite part about connecting with your audience?

Goss: Social media has influenced my career as I’m able to connect with a global audience, something that I didn’t even know existed. That’s what’s so incredible about social media – being able to connect and interact with people all over the world. It is incredibly mind-blowing when you think about this not really existing twenty years ago.

Q: Congratulations on the launch of your new synthetic makeup brushes! Can you tell us more about the “White Gold Collection” and what makes it unique?

Goss: The White Gold Collection was designed as I wanted to create a set of synthetic make-up brushes that were high quality, ultra-soft, but also affordable. Not everyone wants a natural brush, and not everyone can afford an artisan make-up brush. This collection meets in the middle; a vegan and affordable brush that feels really high-end.

Q: What inspired you to create an affordable synthetic range of brushes, and how does it compare to your previous collections?

Goss: I wanted people to be able to afford these brushes as not everyone can afford a handcrafted artisan brush. However, I still wanted everyone to at least have the ability to buy a make-up brush that is both of nice quality and feels really nice too.

Q: You mentioned that these brushes are designed to ensure the skin doesn’t move during application, guaranteeing accuracy and a flawless finish. Can you elaborate on the technology or design behind this feature?

Goss: The goal of my make-up brushes in general is that they don’t move the skin. I’ve always been focused, even from a young age, on people older than myself. The struggles we get as we get older is that our skin loses its elasticity and therefore the skin moves and you can’t get the same placement. That’s why it is so important to me that the brushes are so soft that they don’t move the skin, and you can get a beautiful application.

Q: The price point for these brushes starts at just $10. How were you able to maintain high quality while keeping the brushes affordable?

Goss: The reason for the price point is simple; I wanted it to be affordable. Even if that means taking a hit on profit, there has to be a point where you’re creating something very specific to your target market. And if that does mean that we’re going to be taking a hit on our profits, then so be it. There have to be brushes out there that are both of high quality and an affordable price point. That’s what was missing in the marketplace.

Q: This collection is your first vegan launch. Why was it important for you to create vegan and cruelty-free products?

Goss: I wanted to create a set of synthetic brushes as not everyone wants a natural brush. That was the main reason; I wanted to bridge the gap between what somebody expects from a natural brush and what we can actually achieve with a synthetic brush.

Q: What challenges did you face while developing synthetic brushes that meet your high standards?

Goss: One of the biggest challenges in developing a synthetic brush is that my standards are extremely high – the bristles had to feel incredibly silky. Another huge challenge was the time and length it took to create this collection as you’re always going back and forth to various manufacturers and asking for various changes. This process can be extremely lengthy, but of course, it all paid off.

Q: You mentioned working with one of the biggest synthetic make-up brush manufacturers in the world. Can you share more about this collaboration and the process of bringing your vision to life?

Goss: The collaboration is really about me sharing my vision, which is creating the softest brushes that don’t move the skin and feel like silk, but can you also work with me on price. As I’m so passionate about what I do and about make-up for all ages, they understood my vision and thankfully wanted to work with me.

Q: How involved are you in the design and production process of your brushes? Can you walk us through a typical day in the development phase of a new product?

Goss: I am 100% involved in every aspect and design of the brushes; the shapes, the feel, the softness – everything is down to me. A typical day in development would be designing the brush; how I want it to look, what the purpose of the brush is, and then going to the manufacturers to tell them my vision, what I want, and getting the samples and returning the samples with all my notes and issues that I have with the first, second, third, or even fourth reiteration of that brush. It can be a really long process.

Q: Your previous launches have seen incredible success, including sell-outs and waiting lists. How do you manage demand and customer expectations with your new releases?

Goss: Luckily, we’ve had really great success with sell-outs and waitlists. I think at one point there was a 15k waitlist for some products. I have no idea how I manage the demand and customer expectations; I take it in my stride and only release products that are good. I’ve never released or spoken about a product that I did not love, and I love everything that I do with make-up and make-up brushes.

Q: Can you give us a sneak peek into any upcoming products or collections that your fans can look forward to?

Goss: A sneak peek is that there are more artisan brushes coming – a lot more artisan brushes coming, and there are new collections of synthetics but with different hair that mimics the natural feel of goat hair. Some really exciting things are coming up!

Q: What do you envision for the future of your brand, and what are your goals for the next few years?

Goss: The future of the brand is that we’ll be branching out into more make-up and also introduce skincare. The makeup will have the most amazing textures and colors and applications; makeup that doesn’t mask the skin and ensures that it looks like your own skin. That’s always been my goal – that someone looks like themselves. I cannot stress that enough, but finding textureless products and products that don’t age you; there’s so much coming.

Q: As an award-winning makeup artist, what is your number one tip for achieving a flawless makeup look?

Goss: My number one tip for a flawless makeup look is to respect the skin you’re in; nothing ages you more than too much makeup. The lighter we keep it, the more natural it looks on the skin; the younger and more beautiful you’ll look. That is the goal of makeup – to look more beautiful. People don’t apply makeup hoping to look older, and the more we put on, the older we can look. My goal has always been to create flawless makeup so that it looks like skin, so that nobody asks the question, ‘What foundation do you have on?’

Q: Who are your biggest influences or inspirations in the beauty industry, and why?

Wayne Goss: One of my biggest influences and inspirations in the beauty industry is actually a make-up artist called Bonnie Maller. She did a lot of work in the 80s and 90s and was really responsible for the beautiful and natural-looking makeup with browns and natural colors. She’s an incredible makeup artist, and her makeup inspired me more than any as it truly looked beautiful, particularly as during the 80s everything was electric blue!

Q: If you could only use three makeup products for the rest of your life, what would they be and why?

Goss: Blusher, because it can do more for your skin than anything else and can also be used as a lipstick too, mascara – obviously, and probably a touch of concealer, which can be blended as a foundation.

Q: Your products are shipped worldwide. How do you ensure they meet the needs of diverse skin types and preferences across different regions?

Goss: Products are shipped worldwide from the Wayne Goss website, and with regards to skin types, I don’t focus on skin types. My focus is on aging skin – if my brush will work on someone that’s 70 years old, then it’ll work on someone that’s 17. That is the sole reason why I make my brushes as soft as they are, as they will work on everyone.

Q: You’ve built a loyal community of followers. How do you engage with your fans and incorporate their feedback into your product development?

Goss: I am not a massively active participant on social media. I think it’s a wonderful place, but I also think it can be a really toxic place, which is why I like to have a balance. I look at my comments and I respond to them, and I certainly engage and listen to product feedback, but my life doesn’t revolve around social media. Ensuring that everyone, not only people in make-up, has a balance of social media as too much of a good thing is never good.

Q: In your opinion, how has the beauty industry evolved since you started, and what exciting trends do you see emerging in the future?

Goss: I don’t believe in trends – trends are only designed to sell a product, and there are no trends out there. I believe in classic and timeless beauty and beauty that makes someone look like themselves. I would never try to make anyone look different from how they look because everyone is unique, and we can all look our best, but it’s more about understanding how to do that with makeup and enhancing the features we love about ourselves.

Q: Is there anything else you would like our readers to know about your new brush collection or any upcoming projects?

Goss: I want the readers to know that my line is self-funded. I create all the products myself and fund them myself too. There is nobody telling me what I can and can’t do, and I do that because I want to have the control and the passion for the things that I do, and nobody telling me that I cannot do something. This has always been from day one, and I want everyone to understand that when you’re buying one of my products, I’ve created and funded it, and it means an incredible lot to me that people are purchasing these products.

Wayne Goss’s passion for beauty and dedication to creating high-quality, affordable products shines through in every aspect of his work. His latest “White Gold Collection” is set to make waves in the beauty industry, bringing luxury and accessibility together in a harmonious blend. Stay tuned for more exciting releases from this trailblazing makeup artist.
